So what would you guys recommend for adding filtration? i removed the bioballs, people told me they create nitrates faster then it can remove them, so i took them out. I have the skimmer and a small filter pad in the 29g and thats it, and some LR in the DT. But i need a little more IMO what would you guys say?

Only addition I would recommend would be some chemi-pure elite or regular chemi pure under your filter pads.

Other than that - perhaps something as simple as increasing the flow will increase your filtration depending on where you are with flow now in terms of turnovers/hour.

Only other way to REALLY increase filtration is to go with custom modifying your setup to be plumbed into a sump.

It has been done by others on this forum - not sure who ATM but it's on here somewhere . . .

I cant do a sump due to where the tank is at..

Its on a dresser and the the room would be too small anyway..haha

But How does the chemi pure stuff work? how would i put the under the filter pad?

Understood about placement of a sump.

Yeah - a singe bag placed UNDER the filter pad will force the water through the chemipure bag and the pad will prevent too much detritus from clogging the chemipure bag. Just be sure to rinse/swap that filter pad weekly/every 10 days as it will get nasty.

I used 100 micron filter pads with chemipure in a 14BC with great success and crystal clear water.

A 200 micron pad will be easier to maintain and will do just a fine job.

Especially if you have a skimmer in there - with these last two additions you would be fine IMO all other water changes/feeding being in check.

IMHO, Chemi pure is over rated. But for your small tank it would probably not cost much and do a good job. It has carbon and phosphate remover (GFO)... but I would ask.... what makes you think you need more "filtration".... and what filtration do you think you need?

I't isn't just some general thing... it is either mechanical, chemical, or biological filtration.

You should always run carbon for many reasons... as far as what you have missing form you set up, that would be an easy one. But you options are limited with where to put it in your system. It does not need to be in a sump or canister though. you just need to hang a bag somewhere is some sort of flow.

May I ask why? I'm not disagreeing because I have never used it. I was just thinking about buying some Purigen and Chemi-pure Elite.

Sorry for the tangent but can I just drop the bags into chamber 2 of my BioCube? This would be post-filter floss and carbon, and before the pump (will sit in same chamber as chaeto).

Well for one, the tank has some algae in it, the water is not clear at all, the tank looks dirty and compared to my 14g it looks like CRAP! the 14g has nothing in it for filtration except LR and sand..I need to do a water change on it which i will do today, but it still runs okay..

The 29g on the other hand is dirty,algae..Doesnt look that good. It only has the skimmer and a small filter pad that isnt doing much.
