get 2 lettuce nudibranches.. I got one last week its tearing up my algae.. leaves a clean path behind it, so you can see where they been..

im also surprised your hippo and yellow tangs arent eating up..

do you got good flow towards the front/bottom of the tank? seems that where most of your GHA is?

I know that I am going to take a serious flaming for what I am about to say but here goes....I personally think that most of the theories on algae growth are a bunch of B.S. You either get it or you don't. I believe it is luck of the draw on what is in the rock you bought. I know people are trying to help, but you hear the same old stuff...Your feeding too much frozen....your algae is eating your phosphates....the list goes on and on. The reason I say this is I spent hours and hours reading and reading. I have damn near starved my animals to death to try to combat GHA, Bubble, Cyano...Not to mention the money spent!! I believe that if you just keep your tank healthy, these things run their course on their own. Ther is too many remedy's that dont work. And NOTHING that proves it does. Spend the money on all that stuff if you want to, and let me know how it works out (This includes Emerald Crabs, which I tried too) My tank is now algae free. All you can do is scrub the rocks, so it doesn't look horrible, until it passes. Once again, JMO! But go read all the horror stories, and failed attempts to erradicate it. Not to mention the hundreds and hundreds of dollars people spend. Patience will pay off....Good Luck!! I mean that. If you want any tips you are welcome to ask anytime. I used a Sonic scrubber (Giant electric toothbrush-Walmart 9.99) and blew off the rocks twice a week with a turkey baster. My point is, that until the Algae uses up all of the fuel in the rocks, you have to wait it out. Mine took 3 months. Run Phosban, control overfeeding, and wait. I am now algae free since then. Mine showed up at 7 mo in. After your purple coraline covers all of the rock you will be done. For some reason, Hair Algae will not grow on top of Coraline. BE PATIENT!! I know it sucks, but it WILL PASS!

I also tried Algaefix Marine. I was scared to do so. It did help alot. But not without some consequences. I lost my Chaeto, and Scooter Blenny. The tank just seemed out of balance for awhile. As I said, it did help, but use at your own risk. Here is the thread if you want to see what happened. Also has pics.

Dont ever recall a flaming on this site
dont think one will be given for a post that good either

Im with you 100% on this

CUC - great - if they are in early and are adequate enough to prevent a plague - sorted
but asking a crew of inverts to clean up a tank thats infested with GHA is expecting to much IME

I avoided this on my 2 year old reef , by running GFO from week 4 ( yep right from the start, prevention rather than cure)
I had a decent CUC in , and also control nitrates (the other nutrient for algae)

but on previous set ups, I learned the hard way myself
get in, get as much as you can out by hand
if the rocks can be removed, remove the rocks and clean in a bucket outside of the tank

GHA left to grow a little longer , is good because the roots start to weaken I found if I let the hair grow a couple of inches, when I pulled it away the rock was left pretty bare, but when I tried pulling shorter GHA out it left a few MMs of growth on the rock

at that stage I added GFO and you need to change it regular, whilst you have an algae issue - less frequently if your tank is algae free

I also worked on a better maintenance routine to include blasting rocks, where nutrients can settle

    it took a few weeks
and some weeks more seemed to grow than I removed
but eventually I got on top of it

remove what you can, starve the rest IMO
