    as the title says i need help with my said coral. i acquired this coral from a friend which was thriving in his tank before take down. i had a iodine bath before putting it in my tank and was placed at the bottom for acclimation to my lights. after 1 day i noticed a white spot at one end of the brain and didn't see it as a big deal. after day 3 the spot got bigger and noticed that the flesh is gone like something like a bacteria is eating it. so i did another iodine bath to see if it is just a bacteria infection but after 5 days this is what it looks like.

    this was stake on the top view and as you can see it has eaten almost 1/3 of the brain.

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Is there a chance something next to it is stinging it, especially at night?

    nope. surrounding is cleared by 4-5 inch.
    anyway to prevent further damage? i was thinking that there is something in my sand so it is now placed on top of a rock slightly higher than where it was last. the edge where the flesh is being eaten is sorta calcifying look.
    water para. on both are tank are almost the same except that his nitrates is around .5ppm and mines 0. for me that is out of the question for this one is more of like a bacteria.
    now upon inspection of the whole tank my marble chalice has the same spot now and it is on the other end of the tank. i have to keep watch over this for it might spread in the whole tank. rest of the corals are fine except for these two.

    Try googling White Band Disease and see what you think? That is a real bummer, hope you get to the bottom of it. Great pictures BTW, huge help as well as all the detail you put into the post.

    thanks Corailline, that was a big help. googled it and it seems it is a white band disease. odd as it may seem but the said disease affects sps and not lps corals. i need to read more and as far as some of what i read there is no prevention to it :( now i wanna know if this disease will spread in the whole tank and if so then i have to pull the plug on the brain to save my whole tank.
    :cry::cry::cry::cry: bummer

    There are pieces of gravel in it. Was something covering it, or did it fall over in the substrate?
