    Hey everyone...
I am setting up my own 55 gallon reef. This is my third reef tank but first big one :p I have only had nano tanks before. I am building my own sump/refugium with a protein skimmer. I will also have a hang on the back Cobalt filter. I have two koralina wave makers and I am having trouble choosing lighting.
I would REALLY prefer to use LEDs just because they last longer and I have used them in both my nanos and my corals and fish look great.
I will consider other lighting though :)

Any ideas for lighting for this tank...? Please let me know :D
I am in no rush and want to do this right so all ideas are good.

I dont want to spend too much though preferably not to much higher that 300 bucks.....but if it is more I will still consider it as an option...

    Thanks guys!!! :cheesy:

You could do 2 reef breeders value fixtures. They're $180 each.

    came across this recently,

    Giesemann Lichttechnik -

expensive. its crazy how fast LEDS are growing in aquaria.

if you have the skills then DIY way cheaper, at the end of the day what you need is the right light, the right intensity and for the right amount of time. all these wireless and "storm" functions are useless.

+1, this is what I was going to suggest. 2 will be perfect for a 55 (assuming it is a "long", 48" width).

IMO DIY would be best, a simple array with Luxeon M's for base colors, maybe some HV and OCW's for spectrum. Reefbreeders is also a good option.

Reef breeders photon 32 I think would be cheaper no (then 2 value fixtures)? I have the photon 24 over my 57 36" tank and works fine.. I wish I would have gone with the 32 though for more coverage on the sides

That would be enough for SPS in the middle and LPS and Soft corals near the ends.
