help with lighting?

I am also reading everywhere that I should get rid of my glass versa-top as well.. but I was worried about the light being over the open water..
Thoughts?

I prob have the same tank as you. I'm currently running 2X 250W MH + 2X 110 VHO this unit http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=PF69935

you of course don't needs this much but I run SPS and clams in the tank.

But the reason I bring up my system. I was able to cut the sides of my canopy just wide enough to slide the MH hood in. Now it was a bit short so I installed a metal ledge on the canopy that the hood sits on. I would post a pic but I'm 3000KMs from home (Regina yuck). This allows me to bring the lights closer to the water serface and I don't need to hang them from the cieling.

Also most full MH systems will come with a glass shield. So there is no need for the glass cover over the tank. I through mine out years ago.

Wow Jason! I would love to see pics.. I have some time... What about heat? Does it heat up the water a lot??? Do you have the glass tops like mine????

 

I was thinking about it last night. Any chance retros under the canopy would get you enough clearance? How much room do you have onder there? Still there might be too much heat under there?:-/
