Anyone know a mag 18 brand for the sump that's relatively quiet?
Mine sounds like it's internally humming and drives me nuts! The pump is brand new... Wondering if it's due to the fact I'm running 3/4" tubing...

Make sure the pump and plumbing is not touching the sump walls. Try putting a mouse pad underneath the pump also. Try to purge any air.

I don't have any experience with a Mag 18 but almost any pump moving that much water I think will not be 100% quiet. Maybe I'm wrong but I have an Eheim 1262 moving less water and they are supposedly one of the quieter pumps and it still causes a good amount of vibration.

Also keep in mind that most pumps if they're operating correctly will quiet down as they break in and develop a slime coat etc. It took my return pump a few (at least 3) to really quiet down to a more tolerable level. Although it's hard to say how much quieter it actually is or if I'm just getting used it. It's definitely quieter now it's just hard to quantify it.

Rio pumps as far as I've seen are extremely silent.

my MAG 12 came with a rubber pad to dampen the vibrations (same as the mouse pad idea)

My Mag 18 is very quiet. I have the pad that came with it( as Telgar mentioned ) and I have 1" piping. Not really sure if the dia. of the pvc will matter, but you should try the pad first.

I have used Danner pumps for years, as noted above they should be quiet and reliable for years on end. Try the pad as suggested. Too small a diameter plumbing on the pump will not increase pump hum (same as installing a ball valve does not). However, if you install too small of a diameter you can over work/heat the pump and substantially shorten its useful life.

After years of using danner mag’s drives I upgraded a couple years back to the Danner Pro HY-Drive pumps….all I can say is never in my life have I come across a quieter pump – never, its simply amazing. Even my 4800 gph pump is quiet as a church mouse.

Great input... thanks everyone. I'm going to put on the pad it came with... I have noticed as the break in period continues... it's getting quieter and quieter.

Great to hear. Or hopefully in your case soon not to hear.
