6 days ago i bought a toadstool leather (2"), after putting it in my tank it behaved normally, opened and closed like normal. For the past 3 days it has stayed closed and this morning it looks very small....is it under to little light or too much?..or is it just adjusting to the light?...the place it got it from the guy had them in ponds under direct sunlight.......the tank is 18" tall under a current usa 4x64W,

    65g 100lbs of LR, 1/10 chiller
    turf scrubber, no skimmer
    2 clowns, one tang
    all parameters (pH,dHK,calcium,temp,nitrates,nitrites) withing limits.

    please help

Toadstools are pretty hardy, they extend and retract polyps regularly.
The pics are when I first got it, and about 3 weeks later:

Yeah, it can take a few weeks for them to acclimate. The only thing I would worry about would be brown jelly infection (like a brown-grey slime over the base and top). Mine tends to "wave" to and fro, and retracts and extends its polyps all day. At lights out it shrinks a bit and folds into itself, then when the lights come on it's back up. It's the hardiest thing in my tank!

Have you changed the flow? I have noticed mine likes medium flow and a change either way will cause it to retract.

Chances are your leather has endured a process known as sloughing, which is the leathers natural way of removing algae, detritus and bacteria from accumulating on its body. A shrivelled up appearance is normal with a shiny coat evident. Following this is the slow removal of this so called mucus coating that will in essence rid the coral of all the impurities enabling the leather to expand its polyps and open up further that the past.
