I need some ideas on how to set up my aqua C remora pro skimmer. I bought this skimmer used today and I came with a Rio 1700 pump and I used a piece of flex nylon tubing to attach the pump to the intake on the skimmer. I was wondering if there are any tips on making this skimmer more quit. The other question I have is can I somehow attach the pump to the back wall of my tank to move it closer to the surface and get it off my sandbed. I know this is not an ideal set up that I have right now but I got the skimmer and pump for $75 so I thought it was a deal. If you need a pic to explain my ramblings let me know.

    PIC! :)

Is it the skimmer or the pump that is making the noise?
That pump should have came with some suction cup mount that you could attach it to the wall with anyway for a start. Good score for $75.

It's the skimmer that is making the noise. I have never had a skimmer before so it may just be that they make some noise and I'm not used to it. I will add a pic. The pump is huge! I don't know how a suction cup would hold it up but I do know I was tired of trying to keep up with a skimmerless system. I think I will Krylon the pump black so it blends in with the background.

P.S. I know the GHA is bad. I will get to cleaning!

Alright. Taking matters into my own hands. Building a DIY "rack" to hang the pump over the back out of black pvc. Painting the blue/grey pump black and raising it up to a few inches below water level. Will post pics tonight when I am done.

Here is my solution thus far. I think its better, even tho the pump is in plain view. It is black now and I don't have as much tubing or rescaping to hide it with live rock.

Daylights kicked off. But a closer pic.

I have an aqua C skimmer with a maxi jet 1200. What you did with the pump is fine, but why didn't you just use a shorter piece of pipe? I have mine connected with about a 2 in. long piece of 1/2 vinyl tubing. As for the noise, if it is new, or just being used for the first time, it requires some break in time. After about a week, mine got quieter. As to how loud it is, it really depends on personal taste. I don't care, my fan on my lights, filter and powerhead drown out the skimmer noise.

Yeah, what GuitarMan said...use a 2" pipe. It works better that way.

    Aqua C Remore

My Remora came with the 2 inch tubing already attached to the intake and I just slipped the intake of the maxi jet 1200 into it.

If you do choose to shorten the pipe, it may help with efficiency of the skimmer. The pump will force more water through a shorter distance than a longer one, just a thought.
