I am due upgrade my lighting and many suggest the tek is a great light. I have a 30 gallon with a few fish and soft corals. i was looking at the 36" light, do i go for the 4x39w or the 6x39w. I am inclined to do the 6 bulb, will that make the tank too hot? which bulb combo should i go with and where is the best place to order from?? thanks

I think the 4 bulb would be enough for a 30 gallon. I also have tek lighting and I got it from aquacave. the reason i got if from there is because it had free shipping and they give you some good options for bulbs at a bit of a cheaper price. I got 4 UV bulbs for $52

I would use www.reefgeek.com free shipping great prices on bulb's go UVL on all the bulb's 12,000K on the daylight and the actinics go 420nm and go with the 4 bulb unit for that tank. I think 6 bulb would be overkill. Others will chime in and give you other ideas and answers...I have 6 over a 55

I agree 100%. 4x39W would be great. 12000K x2 and Superactinic x2. The TEKs from reefgeek.com are the lowest price I have seen. I would go with UVL bulbs exclusively. You won't believe how your tank is going to look. I have an 8x54W TEK over my 90 and it rocks.

You are looking at about $425 or so....but you are getting a quality unit. The legs and splash guard are separate. So it is $340 + $60 + $25.

Thanks for all the suggestions. my last concern is would the 6 bulb work on my tank and allow me felxibility for the future, or would it just be too much. I am not looking to upgrade my tank immediately, but who knows in a year or so.

I don't even think the 6 bulb would do anything for your 30 gallon. How wide is the tank? The six bulb would likely be too wide and the two extra bulbs might not even be over the top of the tank anyways.

Yes it would. The typical 30g tank is only 12 or so inches wide. So is the Tek 4x.
