So i had it set up on the bottom of my sump for about 2 weeks and had got it adjusted very well after some break in time. Then i was reading on the internet that the output should be above water. Is this true??? I built a stand fot the skimmer and raised it up. Now i am getting a lot more splashing, more noise and cant seem to dial it in. One say to dry then just a tiny turn and the skimmer overflows. I will continue to run it with the output Above water if that is how it is supposed to run. But really a pain. I have been house sitting went over about 1 am last night and had to empty it cause it wad full. Turned it back a little. Checked the skimmer at 3pm and only a 1/4 full so i thought i had it set. Went over at 9pm and completely full and watery?????
Should i just lower it and keep output below water or what

Check out the one in this video, it's at the correct height and working well. Some people prefer to run their's very wet and other more dry. It's a preference. Emptying a cup withina day is too aggressive and needs to be backed off - that's just too wet and not working as well as it could otherwise be. Check out the video, it may help you.

That is a different model in the video. Mine is the new cone style with a gate valve and bubble plate and the new pinwheel impeller[SUB][/SUB]

I'm not familiar with the cone style, but should be the same principles though. I have the one in the video and have it set up similarly.

Sorry its not the right one. I am not familiar with yours either - however, the collection cup below the water line doesn't sound at all right to me. Raise it up above as in the other version in the video and then adjust it so that the collection cup will take 3-4 days to fill up. this would be a good starting point, and then you can adjust it from there.

Do you have a pic of your skimmer in the sump?

Do you have an ATO in the sump? Is your skimmer in a "constant" water level section of the sump or is the water

I have this skimmer on my 30 gallon cube and LOVE it.

The output of the gate valve is half submerged and I have a small piece of foam on there to keep the splashing/noise to a minimum. You can barely hear the skimmer at night as it is quiet enough to be in my bedroom.

I have a octo nw110 2010 model. I think mine is about 8 1/2" deep I can check when I get home tonight. As far as the splash, I added PVC elbow to the output of mine. It's faceing down into the water so there is no more splashing.

Here's a pic of mine, the output is above the water line and I have it pointed into my filter sock (not sure if that's a dumb thing to do or not), haven't had any issues with it and it produces great skimmate consistenly.

Is this the skimmer you have:

Yeah the skimmer is the one i have in the pic. And the water is at a constant level where the skimmer is. Yeah i also used a salt bucket lid to keep the splashing down. My output goes into the third return chamber

Ok i just checked on skimmer and the cup is just a tiny bit full after dumping it at 9pm last night. It looked like the foam wasnt rising up to the lid so i gave it just a tiny turn ti raise the water level so i think i am close. I just wish when you feed them that you lose all foam
