need help with changing my sand bed, I went from having black sand that i regret taking out to now adding a play sand from home depot that I plan on seeding with LS when my tank clears up, by changing the sand i killed my 2ft Green Moray Eel and my trigger is barely alive, i had these fish in another aqarium but i think that the water or something killed my eel, i wanted to know before adding salt to my water should I change the sand that i'm using because it is only playsand that i plan to seed with Live sand after i have everything up and running again

What brand of playsand is it? Most playsands aren't acceptable for marine aquaria.

How did you swap out the sand?

If you literally took the old sand out and put the new in all at once with both then you shocked your whole system and it became unstable. That is why your eel died and your trigger is having a hard time.

If you still have the original sand in a bucket and it's still wet - and if you did this recently - I would put some original sand in a panty hose or filter sock and place back in the tank. The hose is so you can pull it out later easily.

You pulled out a lot of bacteria that was in that sand. That bacteria helped stabilize your water by converting ammonia to nitrites and nitrites to nitrates which is less harmful than the other two.

    Good luck.
