Personal preference and convenience. Wet skim = less organics and more removal, more times a week. Dry Skim = more organics (concentrated) removed and less draining of the cup.

No, some even argue you get more pure water with dry skim, which is my contention.

No, the skimmer needs to have the proper flow and air unimpeded.

Bubbles will only remove the things that are attracted to bubbles. Once the organics are trapped in the foam head, the only difference between wet and dry skimmate is the amount of water drained from the foam.

There are those that think the darker the skimmate the better the skimmer is performing, but it is not true. The skimmate is more concentrated, but that does not mean there is more total organics removed.

There has been another argument made that the wetter the skimmate, the more organics are removed. Due to the fact that less organics are drained away from the foam. I agree with the reasoning, but there is no proof for that.

Plus, the skimmers job is to remove organics from the system. Once the organics are bound up in a foam head, I feel they are effectively removed from the system regardless of whether they are in the cup or not, or how concentrated or dilute the skimate is.

More than likely, wet and dry are pretty equal, but judging skimmer performance based on how dark the skimate is, is like saying a Honda Civic will beat a Porsche because the Civic is red and the Porsche is blue. Color has no bearing on performance.
