I was curious.... If i get a sump setup for my 29 gallon tank what size bulk heads would I need to have for the inlet and return?

I was looking at glass-holes and they have a few kits that seemed interesting.
Is a 700 GPH overflow going to a 550 GPH rated sump an awful idea?

    would I need a 1/2'' or 3/4'' return?

The Glass-holes super nano overflow kit with teeth is only rated up to 300 GPH.... so I'm assuming that would have a really small return pump in the sump?

Again, this is my first attempt with a sump and I am LOOOOOOOOOOST...

    thanks for all help

Having an overflow rated higher than the return pump isn't bad at all; it's usually preferable. You definitely don't want a return pump rated higher than the overflow, though. The sump (very likely) doesn't have any built-in limit to its flow rate.

Well, I have a 38g tank and a 10g sump/fuge with a 300gph overflow and a Mag 3 pump that is delivering 250gph in my particular setup. It works great so I'm not sure you need a 700gph overflow with a 550gph rated sump. Seems a little bit like overkill if you ask me.

+1 I see no need for the higher flow rate.

Really you could an overflow rated for as high as you want. As long as it is rated higher than your return pump you're safe. You could have an overflow rated as high as 1500gph or as low as 500gph but you're still only going to turn over what your return pump is rated at. I would go to a slightly higher rated overflow box than you plan on running through your sump, but not so big that the overflow box is taking up unnecassary room in the tank.
