So this is new well kinda about a month now
It's fuzzy and dark purple not slimy like cyano (sp) although I think it's a kind of cyano.

    Po - 0
    No -0

    Cal - 450
    Alk -8
    Mag - 1300

Bio pellets for the last 4 months ( think I might have to pull them off line?)

    Ro only water
I sold a few item in my tank to buy spectra pure ro/di unit should be here next week.

So I guess my questions are
A- what it this and what causes it
B- what is the best way to remove it for good ? I have tried to suck it out but grows back the next few days

Pix and any help would be great.

Keep siphoning it and work on improving your water quality. The rodi will help. You will need GFO and will need to change it often. Cut back on how much you feed. I think it is a type of cyano because it seems to die back when the lights are off. Clean all of your equipment thoroughly and siphon all detritus out everywhere.

Algae problems are usually caused by aquarium water with excess nutrients like phosphate, nitrates etc. You can try and siphon out what you can to remove the algae in the short term. In the long term you may have to examine how you care for your tank. There are some commercial dry foods also contain excess nutrients and other undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc so I strain/rinse my fresh/frozen foods before feeding my tank. You may want to consider feeding your fish less often. Also, changing your photo period, light bulbs more flow, using RO/DI water and a high quality salt with little if any NO3, phosphates etc like Tropic Marin may help too. Adding a phosphate remover and increasing flow in your tank may help too.

The RO water will help that problem. Do you run a skimmer?

Yes I run skimmer, I feed once every other day pellets and once a week mysis shrimp rinsed. I run gfo that's chanced once a week I have very nice sps lots of growth and color.

I check my po4 with a Hanna it was @ .03 or with no noticed no3

I also think the lack of no3 might be causeing paler colors in some of my sps?

I did a 15 g water change and siphoned the sand bed off I had 5- 3gal buckets of black nasty water and the stuff has yet to return so I think it was built up debris in the sand feeding the algae. So far all is good.
