Unfortunately things like that happen. I had a nice piece of Xenia that was going good then decided it wanted to die back. I moved it I adjusted the flow on it all kinds of stuff. and it appears it was going to just stay small then I had a heater go bad and decided the tank should be a frozen Popsicle in the middle of the winter! Destroyed all my coral but thankfully my clown and Christmas wrasse survived!

One does not simply use Tap Water and not expect losses.

Thats why I use tap water conditioner to remove chlorine and chloramines.

me I used tap water in my 20 gallon w/o declorinator and it worked fine for the first couple of months.

is it the best no but possible xenia is just like that sometimes it could be the strand (DNA) or an infection from a small scratch or a million other things. you could try another type of Xenia and see if it makes it better.

Not to sound rude but I can continue naming things that would kill coral that is found in tap water.. Next on list.. Copper? Especially in reef tanks ro should be used, preferably rodi.

whie yournot wrong there would be a lickley chance that after it was treated the lvls would be non existant or nulled because of the chemical make up of the treatment.

and if the levels were that high other things would go first vs the coral and ther even might be a massive all at once die off.

but to be speciffic when was the tap water added?

I add tap water, every 2 weeks when I do my water changes. It was just about due for a water change, so I hadnt added it for a while and it had been fine.

Currently, and its been a few days later, everything is doing well. Just without the zenia.
