Ok, I start a treatment of red slime in my tank. Today is the last day and it seems that it killed all the cyano. I did a water test today to see what it would read.

I am getting a small cycle I think from killing all of the cyano. It looks like my cycle did not finish because of the cyano is that possible?

    Also,

According to the instructions on the box, I am spose to do a 20% water change tommarow. Should I hold off tell the Nitrites drop? Or should I just ignore readings of my water at the moment since there is medication in the tank.

    TIA

If you don't do a waterchange, the organic phosphates which allowed your cyano to grow will remain in the water. In other words, your cyanobacteria will just come right back.

I am thinking it could have to do with me turning off my skimmer for 5 days. I also pulled the carbon out of my filter.

    Any more Idea's or comments?

I would just do as the instructions say and you will be fine. On mine i think it was only 24 hours later that you did the water change but i may be wrong. Just watch your skimmer when you turn it back on it will go nuts and over flow more than likely.

Follow the instructions. If it killed cyano, there's no reason it shouldn't effect your beneficial bacteria. Are you sure its safe to them? That may be the reason you have a mini cycle.

I think this would be the reason. Excess nutrients built up. Do you use a phosphate reactor? This will be a good preventative measure, I always run one.

The instructions are the for a reason just follow them and you should be ok. Wait to test until a little time has passe3d after following the instructiosn and all should be fine.
