you mentioned you had a cleaner shrimp. if its only one, they may lay eggs, but i dont think theres any fertilization going on. i dont think one can do the job of 2.

no, we had 3 cleaner shrimp for like 6 months, then one died, then another. the 3rd shrimp had the green eggs all over underneath and layed them. this happened 3 times with the last shrimp. i just don't believe that they are amphipods. we never seen these in the year and a half until the shrimp layed eggs.

actually, there was no algae in the tank either until we let it grow once we say the little fellas.

ok, but how can you explain the 2 orange stripes(one on either side) on the bodies and the multiple tentacles coming off the forehead? another thing to point out is these critters have the little paddles(seems like dozens of them) underneath just like regular shrimp. i don't see these paddles on the amphipods.

does anyone know how long cleaner shrimp are in their infant stage and how long to reach adult status?

I had live baby shrimp born many times, they never lasted the night. They were born at night and I could see hundreds of them swimming around after they were born (I watched them be born, that was a pretty cool sight) but all the fish in the tank ate them that night. Those pics you have don't appear to be baby shrimp.. I have those things in your picture in my tank also, but I am sure they are not shrimp.
