    Absolutely. A 1/2 cm chip on the outside can cause the tank to fail, silicone-d or not.

    I'm guessing you don't want the tank to fail.

    i agree with everyone else. why use a flawed product? you'll just have more headaches down the line. i tend to question the stores quality control if i see tanks with chips that they're "ok" with selling to people.

    if it were my decision id return the tank and have them get an unchipped one. hopefully they dont pull some crap and tell you they wont take it back because 'you' chipped it.
