That is definitely on the stronger side for that sized tank. If you will be having corals (especially SPS) then that would actually be nicely sized. Otherwise, I would recommend getting two smaller powerheads. Maybe 2 Koralia EVO 425s. They are half the size, would put out a little more flow, but would spread it out better vs. just from one.

way over kill, couple of these are more than enough

Hydor Koralia Nano - Bulk Reef Supply

always better to have more less powerful pumps spread around the aquarium, than a single over powerful pump streaming in a single direction

Well either way, the wires would be in the tank and over the rim, so there's no difference there. If you don't want wires in the tank and have some money to spend, then go for an mp10.

Nothing to do with a lid. As mentioned, you really don't want all of your flow coming from one powerhead. Better to do two smaller ones.

nothing to do with a lid. its hard to tell from your picture but if you decide to buy such a powerful pump then i would fear a sandstorm in your tank, the sand does look quite fine. best case scenario it will create a dune/bare bottom area on the bed of your tank as the water smashes against one of the aquarium walls and spreads across it (similar to what happened in your corner there).

and it would be shame cus you have a nice little set up there

in fact try placing that pump on one of the side walls and you should have enough flow

Agreed- what you have would be enough for fish and even soft corals. It just needs to be positioned and aimed differently.

Alternatively, you could place it near the surface where it's at, then point the nozzle toward the front glass at an angle, but as it is, your flow can't go anywhere but the sandbed in that corner.

Better to use 2 smaller ones and let the flow intersect to the front of the tank. This causes a random/chaotic flow vs. laminar. Better for all inhabitants.
