I added Herbtana to my tank to try and battle ich. It said to turn off my protein skimmer. I waited a day and then turned it back on. It bubbled over almost immediately and filled the catch basin up top ahh. How long will it do this for? aiai

I'd leave the skimmer off during the treatment cycle, then do a 20% WC and then start the skimmer back up;) It will still run like a nightmare for a few days and calm down.

I have it. I've used it as directed and in larger doses. I believe it boosts the fish immune system and does not directly attack ich. Just put in carbon and wait a few days between the last dose before putting the skimmer back on. You gotta dose everyday.

So...I dosed the Herbtana once and then the concentrated garlic oil once. After a few days, i can barely see any ich on the two fish that were infected. They never stopped eating or acting normal. I am hesitant to add that stuff into my tank everyday...it smells so strong (although I know its safe). I started the skimmer and after a few over flows and some adjustments, it seems to be working again.

Do you think im in the clear for now with the ich? I know its going back to a diff cycle. I bought a UV filter but its huge and it makes a weird noise when it runs so I turned it off ahhh. Any advice on UV filters. Do I need to keep the air hose on?? because when I do it makes a ton of micro bubbles.

If your fish are eating and acting normal(no rubbing on things) I wouldn't do squat except feed them healthy food! The UV, well, is a long debate ya need to read up on and decide for yourself! I'd prob drop the airstone too, and just make sure your powerheads are moving the top of the water good. Eliminate anything abnormal to the fish to alleviate stress( airstone). Just watch them close and start the treatment if ya see signs, or they stop eating, IMO;)

BTW, once ya have ICH, ya always have it, so NO on the "in the clear" just feed them well, keep the stock level down and at an appropriate level and fish suitable for your tank(adult size and aggression) and ya should be fine ;)

yea, even when they were covered in the ich a couple days ago, they never stopped eating or rubbed themselves on anything.
Yea I know that I have ich forever. Just hope that keeping the tank tip top will keep it at bay.
Yea, I need to read up on the UV, right now its just sitting in my sump...i dont want it to have stagnant water in it for too long.

    thanks for your opinions!

pull it out, clean it up if your not using it, that way ya can sell it if ya choose that route
