For those of you with a sump, when you do a water test do you take it from the main tank or the sump. does it matter? i take mine from the main tank, i was just wondering how the rest of you do it . :-/

It shouldn't matter as it is all circulated together. On my last tank that had a sump I tested the water from the tank. It was easier to get to.

i test from the main tank it is easier for me but i did compare with the water from the sump the only difference i found was the sg was slightly lower not sure why maybe its to do with the temp

I take my water sample from the middle of the main tank. I avoid the surface. You may ask why......Don't know. No reason. Just a bad feeling.

I take mine from the sump. The tank is at eye level and it is just more convenient to sit down and do all my testing at the sump without needing to get up and down for each one.

Man must be a slow tank day to get this one :) its all the same water if its not then you need more internal circulation to help with the water stratification

I always found there to be no difference where you test it from, just wondered if some one out there felt there might be a difference and the reason it might be.
just thought it might be something to put out there and kick around some. ;D

just never seen it asked before

The water in the sump and the DT would have the same properties provided there's ample flow. :)
