I have a hermit crab that after molting got back into its shell and lost all of its legs. Will they grown back (I have it isolated) or does it need to go into the freezer?

are you sure its not just the moltings, sometimes crabs and shrimps will loose one leg while molting, but not usually all of them unless the water wasnt right, has it molted before properly, the moltings will look like a whole crab or whole legs, colors, hair and all...and sometimes they wont come out for a couple days...so dont freeze him yet, just wait it out...

It hase been coming out of its shell for three days and has no legs, like I can see its mouth and eyes but no legs. The nassarius are notourious for going after recently molted critters.

Yes, it has molted several times before and my params are perfect...

Hey Gin, have you checked your iodine level lately? You say you're doing iodine dips on the bubble coral. Might that be affecting him. It takes iodine for them and shrimps to molt.

yeah, thats why i asked about the water quality, thats weird that it has no legs, if there some way to feed it for a month till it molts again then It might have a chance as its probably have some stubby little legs then and be able to walk...I had an electric blue regrow a whole eyestalk and eyeball within two months but it was a complete eye on a short stalk in one molting...and they regrow their antennas very quickly also

I haven't added any iodine to that tank at all, ever! The bubble coral is in the other tank bu I will check the levels today. I have him in a betta box and I'm feeding it mysis. I have seen it eat so hopefully it'll recover.

    Thanks guys!

yep, I think your iodine levels could have something to do with it losing it's legs.

    have you checked them yet?:)

My electric blue is molting very regular and has recently killed/murdered a slow mexican turbo to take his gigantic shell...he only has one large claw...and uses it VERY profeiciently.....I dont know when or how he lost his other claw??...But he gets along just dandy.

I remember purchasing an electric blue and having it molt in the bag as I was acclimating it. Initially I thought it had died so I just threw the shell in the tank and the rest in the garbage. I was quite surprised when I saw him hiding with shell and all in a little crevace!
