Has anyone ever had a hermit crab take a liking to their frogspawn? Every time I look at the tank, one of my blue legged crabs is on my frogspawn. The coral still looks ok, but I'm wondering if he is eating it? I have read that can happen. It's funny, it's the same crab every time. Last night I picked him up and transported him to the other side of the world (tank), but he managed to find his way back. Can anyone offer any advice or experience with this? Does this little guy need a trip back to the LFS?

My hermits craw on my corals all the time. While I'm not saying that he not eating it, my guess would be that he is picking debris off of it. I would just keep your eye on the coral for damage. How often are you feed? There is a fine line between over feeding and under feeding. Over feeding you will throw off the balance of your tank with increasing Nitrates. Underfeed your hermits and even some fish will be come convicts and start causing all kinds of damage to other live stock.. This is when you often see hermits pulling each other out of the shell and eating one another. Other may chime in but I'd just keep an eye on the coral. Put it this way the hermit was likly a few bucks, with the frog spawn being more then that.. At first site of damage he'd be banished!!

Thanks for your reply. We are new to frogspawns. It's just a small one, only one head. Only paid 10 bucks for it, but it's my favorite. Does anyone know what would be considered signs of damage or stress? I periodically see it turn black in spots, only to return to normal a few minutes later. It does this when we feed it mysis shrimp.... I am supposing that is normal. I have researched it but I have not found much detailed descriptive content online about them.
    Thanks again.

I would look for tears. I think if the hermit is going to hurt it that is what would happen.. Just my guess though. As for the black spots I have never seen that with mine.. It's not touching another coral is it?
