Do you think adding a larger conch...2-3 inchs would be safe. I have hermits but there claws are maybe a 1/8 long..they are really small.

Nas. snails are usually safe from the predatory ways of hermits - until they either die/are dying/or have fallen asleep or become temp. upsidedown and do not right themselves right away. Otherwise nass spend most of their time under the sand anyway so the hermits do not bother them EDIT : IF YOU HAVE SAND THEY WILL NOT BOTHER THEM!

As for florida ceriths - they fall victims more often as their shells are often larger and more appealing on top of them being even slower to move/correct when flipped.

Dwarf ceriths seem to be mostly unaffected except by the smallest of hermits.

The most commonly attacked, IME would be the astrea snails.
This has a two fold reason: for one the astrea snails are actually a cooler water species and in our tanks of (75-82) degrees they slowly cook. Secondly, they can only rarely correct themselves. So it seems at times the temp of the water finally gets to them, they get weak, and they are on their sides - a helpless feast for hermits and nassarius snails alike. I have personally witnessed mass gatherings of 30+ nass on the carcass of a recently flipped astrea snail. The feast is done within 8 hours each time.

I oly keep the smallest of the small hermits.if they get bigger they are traded in.to add to that so far the only hermits I now use are" zebra" hermits from hawaii.so far they have done no damage.
