Yeah Steve Irwin was an awsome guy for sure! Miss him. Not a boring post at all coral reefer. If more people thought like you, we would all be alot better off. And certainly have fewer extictions and endangered species. Nice post!

 

Mr. Irwin definitely inspired me too, not just with herps but wildlife in general! I think that's why I got so drawn into herps and marine tanks...great minds think alike...It's nice to shoot the *crap* with a bunch of like minded people! Karma for your post CR!

Funny that you mention that. What made me get rid of the snake was that when I had lifted the lid of its tank to toss it a rat, it shot out and went for the cat. I gave it away shortly afterwards. With a diet of 4 rats or a rabbit a month, it got too expensive to feed anyhow so it had to go.

 

Burmese and their size! Are out of my league, like you said amcarrig they get big, and real fast too. I do not have the space to keeep animals that large. Plus then instead of just having 40 mice in my garage there would probably be atleast 40 rabbits in there too lol. I have heard with heavy feeding that 2 years can mean 10ft.

My amazon tree boa is housed in a nice Oceanic setup. It is 24 x 18 x 25 made with smoke or charcoal glass. It has eight plastic perforated breather vents, four in the back glass and two on each side glass. Also has a glass lid with a screen type strip in the center. Anyway when I first set it up I used potting soil with a layer of spagnum moss on top. I planted a small ficus tree in the center, and had a few small things planted also, don't remember what they were called. Ficus tree did just fine untill i slacked way off on watering it Some of the smaller plants became victims of a fungus fairly early on. I was not paying enough attention to the plants unfortunatly. I guess you could say your pictures of your vivariums have inspired me to try again some day! Thanks again for sharing your pics.

 

Vivs' really aren't that hard, it does depend on plants though. SOunds like you also forgot a drainage layer so the substrate was saturated and the roots couldn't breath.

i almost bit the bucket cause of a burm. and an african rock python...

my boss had me feed a 12 foot burm that had just hatched out a clutch of eggs when i mad the mistake of holding the dead rabbit for to long... i ended up getting bit, and wrapped, while my boss was in the back of the warehouse. i stood there saying "Bill... Bill... BILL!!! BIIIIIILLLLLL!!!"

i worked in reptile shops down here in miami for about 3 years, and i had a breeding program getting started with higher end ball pythons... i was breeding pastels and wanted super pastels, but i ran out of money. and time... and space... and my parents house... rofl

i was also working on getting my venomous license, so that i could keep my all time favs, the eyelash viper, and the cane break rattler...
