My name is Jim and I've had tropical fish for as long as I can remember. However, I got out of the hobby as I was moving around quite a bit and it was too much trouble to take down, set-up again and again. I recently picked up a 100g tank and my neighbor has sparked my interest in a reef tank. I found this site while doing research on what I need and how to do it. I don't know anything about reef tanks, so I'm doing my homework so that it will be successful. I've got to build a new stand and canopy for the tank, so that will give me some more time to research equipment and procedures.

Some of my immediate concerns are lighting and filtration. Specifically, protein skimmers, HOB filters and sumps.

I'm really excited to get back into the hobby, albeit in a genre. Looking forward to everyone's advice and encouragement.

    -Jim

Welcome. You are already doing better than many new reefers by doing research before jumping in. K+ for your patience.

Thanks all for the welcomes. I really appreciate it. I've been browsing the forums all day and there is a ton of information here. I can't wait to get started on building my stand and canopy this weekend. I'll take pictures so you all can see what I'm doing.
