Does anyone know anything about firefish? Mine is in an aquarium with two clown fish and a couple crabs and snails and all he does is hide in the back by the substrate is that normal? Or is he gonna kick it?

With ours, we found them to be a bit shy for some time after adding to the tank... it took about 4 weeks before they began to swim more feely.... but, then they jumped out of the tank... :-(

So much for having an open top tank for air exchange....

Fire fish do better in groups--not alone--may want to add a couple more

Umm, I would have to highly disagree with the groups. Unless it is a mated pair, most firefish will fight each other to the death. They can be HIGHLY territorial with each other.
How long have you had it? As said, they can take a while to warm up. Mine took around two weeks. They can also be known jumpers so be careful. But, I have had mine for a while now with no jumping problems at all.

groups = 3 or more , 2 is a pair and as Packleader says if they are not mated they may well fight

had a trio in a 4ft back in the day and had no problems with them, they hanged about together front and centre, due to the safety in numbers they felt secure

Sorry Pack--I agree with 99.9% of what you say, but on the firefish I have always seen them do better in groups (Odd Numbers) I work at a LFS part time, and every time we get down to 1 firefish he starts hiding--add a new shipment and he comes back out and hangs with the group!!

Got 2 myself and again agree with the shy at first and then warm up scenario. They are skittish fish which is the cause for their jumping. I have personally had them bounce off my tank hood. They will be the first to dive for cover if you put your hand in the tank.

I have always bought them in pairs from the same tank without issue. This does not mean that they won't fight as pack points out, just have to have a little luck.

As we all know nothing is set in stone when it comes to personalities of fish or humans. Some traits will be there for instance (Men have selective hearing when it comes to the wife telling us to do something, and Women all like to tell us men what to do).. Ha Ha..you get my point I hope

Very true--alot does depend on the fish..They say you should not put more than one Angel in a tank, but several people do it just fine..You never know!!!!
