Hey guys, let me first inrtoduce myself. My name is, Alex Hegedus. I go to The Ohio State University and currently studying architecture. I have had many many freshwater tanks with live plants. I have recently become bored with my setups so i am starting over. Instead of re-doing all of my tanks, I have decided to make one of them a saltater tank. I have never done a reef tank before, so I came here to learn a bit about reef tanks and what I need to buy. Being a college student, I am a little low on cash, so I am going to try and accomplish my goal while using as little money as possible. I have only just begun doing my research, but if anyone has any tips for a newbie, I will gladly accept them. Thanks for helping and I can't wait to get started! ;D;D;D

    Welcome to 3reef

I too am a college student. I know the money situation all too well. What kind of tank are you looking to set up size wise? What livestock are you wanting to keep? Fish only, or full reef?

Tips: Ask questions, ask questions, ask questions. Also search builds on here that are close to the size tank. itll give you a direction as to where to head.

I have a 20g long tank that I think would look really nice with a few easy corals and fish. I am not trying to have the best tank on the block, but something that looks nice and is low maintenence/cost would be best for me.

I have a 20 Long and i love it, relatively inexpensive to start/maintain. Ive had mine over a yr now and its going strong. It was my first SW tank too, and ive learned all i know from this site. So your gonna do just fine. Take a look at it for reference if youd like to, there are a few 20 longs around here that are great tanks.
