Ok, is 2x 400 watt metal halides to much light for a 90 gallon setup?
and then the next question is if the guy wanting to sell them to me has been running mogul in them, does that mean I can't switch the setup to double ended bulbs ?

I don't know much about metal halide and when I asked this fella he said he didn't know either, and as far as he knows one wire would go to one end and the other to the other end and it should work?

Any concerns, or suggestions for me on this one?
If I take them I intend to run them mounted to a reflecter inside of my canopy, unless they would get to hot and possibly cause fire ? I heard MH get super hot?

    Thanks guys.

Those 400 would fry a 90 gallon. 2 250 watt halides would be more than enough. I believe 400 watt halides only use mogul base bulbs, but Im not totally sure on that. Atleast the 2 400 watt fixtures I have only use mogul base. Halides do get very hot. Running a fan over them will help extend the life of the bulb as well as cooling your tank. If you run those lights in your canopy you will have some serious heat issues.

Norg is correct on 400W being too much for a 90. A pair of 250Ws will grow anything you could possibly want in a 90.

As for DE bulbs, there are a lot of them in the 250W versions, but it really depends on the ballast if they will work. Do you know what Make and Model the ballast is?
