Hi all

Hello! I am new here and trying to muddle my way through a new reef tank.

I have had a 150 gal fowlr tank for about 5 years. It is really maintnance free, because I'm afraid to introduce anything new to my tank and kill the fish I have so I only have LR, an angel, a purple damsel, a zebra damsel and two clown fish. Yea, not much maintance needed there at all!

But I just got a 14 gal biocube reef tank, I'm on a whole new planet here! First let me say it is an established tank, my husband's boss is moving out of the country and needed to get id of it, so my hubby bless his heart, knows I've always wanted one but am afraid of how hard they are to keep and never got one, got if for me.

So It came with a broke pump, I got that working, it has a 360* rotating head. There is LR in the filter area, and I put in a woven filter (I'm not sure that was a good idea becuase I had a small amount of ammonia after that.)
It has the moon light, blue light and white light, There is also a UV light. He said it's broken but it lights up????? Don't know how you can tell.

There is what he said was a clown fish but it's orangeish red with only onestripe by the head and one going down it's back, a maroon banded cleaner shrimp, lots of hermits and a couple snails, 2 bristle worms (yea got questions on that too....) I'm not sure what coral I have but I think it's green zoa, some brown form of zoa and I had a bunch of brown little soft coral (can't find a pic to ID but they look like littler zoa) But after two days it all when in it's stem and I think it might have died (how do you tell), and these really pretty thin flowery looking things that are just randomly on the rocks.. and some yellow stuff around the live rock that I think I ID'd as sponge.

Anyways, I have a slew of questions, but I just wanted to introduce myself first.... If anyone has any suggestions let me know because like I said I feel I was thrown in middle of jungle without a map or compass, I just hope I figure out before I lose more coral!

Hey! first off welcome to 3reef! You've come to the right place! There are many knowledgeable people here how will help you sort out you new tank! Can you post any pics of what you have for us to go by?

ok this is the first time I'm trying pics so wish me luck!​

Ok this is my tank... well this turned out bad but I don't know how to fix it so I will just list what they are. The first is my tank, then my lone fishy (the shrimp and bristle worms are hiding) The next two are the coral I'm hoping aren't dead, (there are a few blooms so I have hope still!) The next I'm guessing is green zoa and the last I don't know. you ca see the little fan or flowery things in some of the pics. Once again thanks for any recommedations!
