    Hello all,
I've had aquariums for years my first tank being a freshwater 45 gal. hex using a canister filter that I ran sucessfully for years till I moved and couldn't take it with me . When I got another I could only afford a mere 10 gal. and really only had space for that size anyway. Recently ly I moved those inhabitants to a 38 gal tank and added some more.

I've always wanted saltwater so decided to go for it as a birthday gift to myself. Plus I had my heart set on it since I saw an ad on CL for a 72 gal bow front w/stand and canopy for a mere $60, unfortunately for me that fell through :furious3:grrrrrrrrrrrr. So I got a 46 gal bowfront, no stand or canopy but since my dad is a wonderful woodworker and I'm handy as well so I figure we can build a far better one than the overpriced plain Jane stuff they sell @ the LFS.

For lighting (I used the one that came with my new tank for my 38 gal tank since it had a makeshift light...the tank and stand were free from CL just hadn't gotten around to getting a proper light)...anyway I 'm hoping to get a 36" Odyssea light with 2 T5's in it for a mere fraction of the original cost.

For my 46 bow front I plan to do a modified reef (I guess is what it's called) by adding in some macro algae for seahorses to hide in and for hitching posts). I'm hoping to figure out how to do the reef w/o drilling the tank...we'll see.

I've researched a lot and have my list of possible tank mates and corals etc. that I want. Constructive advice is always welcome.

Please note that if it weren't for this forum I might not even be doing the Nano tank, which will be in my daughter's room and be for QT/recovery. I had always thought saltwater systems had to be big.

I soooo can't wait to get started, but first I have to get all the stuff together so may take a few months.

Oh heck yeah it is an expensive hobby and don't want to waste money by stumbling along blind.

Besides it's good animal husbandry to be sure you can provide what the animal needs. I'm still researching livestock and how to set up my tank without having to drill it...may have to bite the bullet and my fingernails and have it drilled:anxious:.

And I want a pretty tank not an eyesore and a headache. Well may still be a headache, financially LOL.
