Hello all! Just wanted to give a bit of information about myself and not just lurk your forums . My husband has been wanting to start a salt water tank for years and we just recently decided to do it (Our 18 month old daughter loves to watch the fishies) We have a 55gallon tank that will be a FOWLR tank and its all full of 75lbs of live rock, 40lbs of live sand and water....that's all! We started the cycle on in on 5-5 and have yet to see any types of spike which we were told we may not due to the fact that we went to a house removed the rock from a friends system and put it in our tank! So anyway we are sitting home watching our water and researching like crazy what we want to put in the tank and the best foods, clean up crew, etc... Reading everything we can get our hands on and checking out the different forums. I will probably drive everyone nuts with questions but luckily we have a local saltwater fish store that is wonderful so I can bug them with most of my question . All in all just wanted to say hi and introduce ourselves and our tank full of water, rock and sand!

welcome to 3reef. i wouldnt expect to see any kind of cycle since you got the rock straight from a existing tank.

Yep, even threw in a dead, frozen shrimp and got nothing. Going to test again this weekend if still getting the good readings we are now then we are going to go ahead and try some snails! Is it sad when your excited about snails? Will post pics of our rock and water when I get home tonight!
