my name is ozzy i live in portland maine with my girlfriend sarah and our 23 animals. we are both 20 yrs old and are experts when it comes to anything rodent. being where i live right here in portland i have access to some pretty cool marine life and me and my girlfriend would like to start a reef tank with a few fish, only problem is we know nothing about fish let alone coral. but i recently bought a 50 gallon tank with a lid and a light for 15 dollars and its all in great condition. i am very interested in making a reef tank. but i have no idea where to begin. i have money left from the money i thought i was going to spend on the tank so if someone could direct me to the best source of information on begginner reef tanks for dummies or is willing to email me to let me know what i need it would be most apreciated.

Ozzy (cool, historical name, by the way) Welcome to 3Reef.
Read, read, read about setting up a fish tank. Get Fenner's book if you really want to get overwhelmed, but pages 101-131 are an excellent tutorial on how to set up a tank.

Word of caution: You are in Maine. NOTHING from the ocean where you live will survive in a heated, "reef" tank.

If you want to keep local creatures, you'll have to keep the tank cool to match local conditions. I did it when I live in New England, and kept things alive for 6 months before I moved and had to release them back to the wild.
