I have a small marine tank and I have a lion fish that is in such good condition. Of late I have noticed that he is battling to open his mouth. This is relatively new as he is not malnourished but will not eat anything including live food. Is there any advice out there. Thanks Warren:cry:

How long has he been in the tank?

    Have you tried guppies?

What are your parameters, size of the tank, other occupants (if any), how long has the tank been running, and could he have injured himself on anything?

The tank has about 400l capacity. I have a few corals, a yellow damsil, 2 catfish and a crazy looking worm like character that is long, spiky, brown and white stripes and when it comes out to feed at night, its like it has a mouth full of feathers. I would love to know what it is. The lion fish like I said looks so healthy, will chase the live food like normal but when it comes to its vacume like feeding action, it looks like its jaw is wired shut. Being the eternal optimist that I am I was hoping one of you was going to let me know that this was normal behaviour and it will all be ok. I will try Guppies tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback. Warren

Howdy! and welcome to 3Reef, I hope by now he is eating, I've never owned one so really don't know what their behavior is like, but if you haven't had him long you can always take him back to the lfs and let them deal with it, but I think that might of been something that he ate back fired on him.

I also have never heard of that. I have never owned one but I asked a friend who had and he hadn't either. I would keep bumping this or ask a LFS to see what they say. Anyone else have any ideas?

I haven't heard of it either. I would not recommend guppies though.
