    Hello everyone!

I have been lurking these forums for about 4 days now and decided to make a post and get in on the fun. Seems like you have a great group of people here and there is a ton of knowledge to be gained here.

Little bit about myself if anyone is interested: I live in Kissimmee FL and I am just getting started on a 100 gal (plus sump) reef tank. So far all I have in there is 10 tiny hermit crabs, 10 turbo snails, 4 green chromis fish, and a few peices of live rock. (ok I only have one huge piece of live rock, 11 pounds, and several dead rocks that are starting to grow stuff on them).

    Thanks everyone!

I think the sump picture was taken before I had to restart the tank.

    Welcome to 3reef!

Looks like a great setup you have started! Out of curiosity, how long has your water been green? What kind of mechanical filtration do you have? Actually, what filtration do you have in general - and what are your water params? It should not... be green :)

I'm guessing the lights were on too long during the day, or maybe old bulbs, and probably a phosphate/nitrate/silicate problem with your water or leeching out from your rocks or sand - which can be fixed with time and effort and money. Great tank size for a salt water tank.
What do you have for water test kits so far?

    Thanks. :D

I don't have much in the way of mechanical filtration. All I have is a protein skimmer. I can't give you a whole lot of details on it, other than it is a venturi style skimmer. I bought the tank used and the skimmer came with it.

For biological filtration I have 100 pounds of live sand. I have an 11 pound live rock and probably 40-50 pounds of base rock, that now has green algae growing on it. I also have a little plant living in the sump now.

I am thinking about building a small turf algae scrubber too.

Water has been green for probably two weeks or so (tank has been going for 3 weeks). I am wagering it is due to the curtains being open on the windows for a while and the lights being on too long. :D (I have a thread going in the algae section about it)

Thats the problem with buying used... I don't have any information on any of the pumps, the skimmer, the lights, the digital lamp timer, etc.

I can't give you the water params. I am embarrassed to say I have been having my LFS do the water tests and all they have said is "water looks great other than algae bloom"
