    Welcome to 3reef. Your in the beginings of the cycle process, lights should be the last thing to "turn on" so to speak. If your going to be serious about the hobby, you need to get test kits for the following; Nh3, No2, No3, Po4, if your planning on a reef tank add the following; Cal, Mag and Alk/dkh. With all that green water, I can only ask the following Q's;
    1. What kind of water did you use to fill up this tank(salt mix W/tap water....etc) and top off's?
    2. Are you using Windex to clean the outside glass?
    3. Have you replaced the bulbs when you got the tank?

    Close all windows near the tank, turn off the lights while cycling, use only filtered water(like R/O water), you definitely need more LR, need to know more about your sump. You may need to buy a UV filter to kill the green algea particles that is "floating" in your water. I'm sorry to say this, but your tank is a mess, but it is "fixable". You did get a good size tank, most pll start off with a small tank only to find themselves up-grading in a short time and spending all kinds of money. Good luck my fellow Floridian.

    1) for the fill up I used tap water (from well) with a chlorine remover added and salt mix. For top off's I am using RO/DI water from the LFS.
    2) Nope. I am using water and rag.
    3) No we haven't. The lady we bought the tank from said she just changed the lights, but we are finding she wasn't completely truthful about everything this far.

    Water from the Florida aquifer is very high in phosphorus so I am betting that is part of the problem... that and the windows being open. :-[

    Thanks everyone for the welcomes and good lucks!

    I would never use tap water no matter how many or good of a conditioner your using. If its in your budget, I would definitely get a R/O unit. They pay for themselves in the long run. I would change out the bulbs, who know how old they are. Im almost 100% sure that part, if not all of your problem is the tap water. You need to test for Nh3,No2, No3 and Po4. Most LFS's test those parameters for free. Luna
