    Hello,

My name is Treston and I've been in the fishkeeping hobby for over 8 years now. I set up my first saltwater tank last March, but converted it into a 40 gallon a few months ago. Since then, my tank remained basically empty until I went to the local beach and caught some blennies and peppermint shrimp. I'm attempting to grow SPS for the second time with a green birdsnest coral, and its still alive after a month. :D I'll try to get pics of my tank up later.

I also have a 14 gallon BioCube that my dad's friend gave to me last year. When I got it from him, it was infested with cyanobacteria, but I got rid of that by turning the lights off for a week and rinsing everything with freshwater. Then came hair algae and hydroids. I'm still battling these, but I caught some nudibranches and put some peppermints in there to clean it up a little. So far, it looks like they're cleaning it up, but I;ll see. :)

    Specs:
    40 gallon breeder display.
    20 gallon long sump.
    HOB overflow box.
    x4 39 watt T5HO.
    Bubble-Magus NAC6 skimmer.
    Eheim 1250 return pump.
    Maxijet 1200 powerhead.
Home Depot CFL clamp-on refugium light.

I'm going to upgrade almost everything when I get the money. The tank is covered in calcium and scratches, so that needs replaced. I'll also be puting in a Beananimal overflow. I'm thinking about a SEN 900 for a return pump. The thing I'm most excited about is upgrading to Cree LED's. :D

I think once the tank becomes more established in a couple months you will see better growth on the birdsnest.

It's a great start, the equipment you put together should serve you well.

That's what I'm thinking. Also, there's not enough live rock in it, so I'm going to need to get more.

I would like to see an image of the peppermint shrimp if you get around to it and the nudibranch. I am curious as to the local critters.

Adding more LR will definitely benefit the system.
