Hi all,

I need a suggestion for a skimmer to my 150 gal tank if i want to start some coral. thx.

Bubble magus has been getting alot of good reviews

 

Whats the budget? and what does "some coral" mean . . . are we talking SPS reef or mixed softie / LPS? What kind of bio-load are you planning on having?

my budget is about $150 and have $125 for the lighting.
don't have any coral at this point.

Look on craigslist or local reef forums for a used ASM G3, should be around 100-200. $125 wont get you very far at all lighting wise. I consider myself very thrifty and was able to put a quality 6 bulb T5 retro setup over my tank for around $250, and that is with finding un-heard of deals.

If I was in your shoes, I would be sending everyone on craigslist with a 6' reef tank for sale an e-mail asking them how much for just their skimmer and lighting. Then counter them with a 2/3 - 1/2 cash offer and you might get close to your $275 budget.

agreed, very hard to meet that budget.

Right now Euro-Reef is having a sale for a skimmer for $200. That is the cheapest I know of without undersizing.
