I added a Green Banded Goby on Saturday. He was perched on the glass when my Coral Beauty came over and took a bite of algae right where he was. I think he darted off (The CB wouldn't eat him in one bite would he?). Anyway, the GBG darted into the rocks and I haven't seen him since. What are the chances he's still alive?

First the Coral Beauty is Herbavore/Omnivore--Very small chance he would eat your goby. My Diamond goby got pegged by my damsels within seconds after adding him to the tank. He hid for a day or 2. He came out and has been out ever since. I dont think you have to worry yet.

I would say the chances are pretty darn good. The Coral Beauty would be the last thing to eat him, if something were to try. They mainly nip around on rock, not really a predator. Even when our Pinkbar goby was used to us, we could still go a full day without seeing him. Gobies are really shy when they are first brought in to a new home, so I would give him a few days before you call him KIA.

I didn't really think the CB would eat him. That was more of a badly phrased joke. He is less than an inch long, but I don't have any large predators in the tank. My biggest fish is a Yellow Tang, which is not a hunter at all. I worried just the same when my Green Clown Goby hid for a couple days. Good to hear.

This guy still hasn't shown himself. I'm really starting to doubt that he'll ever come out, although I'm not quite ready to declare him MIA or dead.

Don't be surprised if one day it just shows itself again. I have a blue neon goby that I purchased about 6 months ago. Anyway, it was doing fine when I first got it and within a few days TOTALLY disappeared so I figured it was lunch for the clean-up crew. About a month ago I am feeding the fish and what do I see?? The little neon popping out behind a rock in the tank. Now it is out all the time and set up a cleaning station and all.

Why it hid for months?? who knows but hey there is a chance it's still in there IMO
