    Lmao idk why but your "tangs are poop machines" cracked my ass up. Jeez im loosing it but ya its true, if you dont have a sump get one with some cheato. No bs these guys on 3reef are like gods gift to reefers. I put cheato in mine over 2 weeks nitrates went from 60 to 20. And yes my tang is a poop machine!

    Worms, snails and other things do not sitr the sand adequately and sand beds can slowly become huge detritus traps until deadly hydrogen sulfide builds up. Stir only one very small section of the sand every few days.

    Hello, if you can afford it, this may be what you are looking for;Aquaripure Home Halimeda works great and can be put in the display if you like a cactus looking plant in the display (I do and have it in mine) or a product called a Algone works naturally to bind the nitrate, it is a kind of hay or grass in pouches, I used it also and it works to a degree to at least keep nitrate at 20 ppm and lower.

    I have 3 sand sifting stars in my 75tank. They do a pretty good job. My diamond goby did a killer job at cleaning....and ruining my aquascape. No more sand sifting gobies for me, only chill gobies like my watchman goby

    Heres my 2 cents on this. IMO, before you go out and spends tons of $$$ on a piece of equipment or a band-aid fix, you/we need to pin-point the source of your No3. We need to know more about your filtration system. Do you have a sump, canister or a refugium? I'm sorry, but I will disagree with those who said not to clean the sand bed(SB). How long has the tank been running? How long did you wait before introducing the fish? Did you cycle the tank first? Everytime I do a WC, I syphon the SB and I dont have issues with No3. One problem that I see is that your tangs in the 55g equals trouble, but you dont have to get rid of them. Without knowing what your system consists of, here are some ideas;

    1. Increase your LR to 75lbs(if possible)
    2. If you dont have a sump or a refugium, get a refugium. Get some Macroalgae in there. I like to use Cheato.
    3. Do a 10-15% WC weekly or even bi-weekly until you start to see your No3 on a downward decline pattern.
    4. Make sure to clean out any pre-filter sponges, pads or anything the like.
    5. If you have one of those "hang-on the-back" filters, get rid of it(if possible).

    To be able to give better advice, we need to know more about your system. You can start from the beginning, so lay down on a couch, make urself comfortable and start from the begining.;D

    ok yeah You just posted the 2 sources of your nitrates. The emporer and seaclown. Both of these are very substandard products. You shouldn't have a powerfilter on a saltwater tank anyway and the seaclone is horrible. I would run around on some of the classified threads on various forums and find an aqua c remora skimmer, octopus hang on back, or a cpr backpack. All three of these are ok products. I prefer the aqua c to the rest of them tho.

    get the aqua c remora pro with the surface skimmer box. Ditch the wet dry and see where u are at running a good skimmer and routine water changes for a couple weeks.

    agreed. Skimmer and Liverock are the only filtration that you need. Like said before, get the surface skimmer box. This makes the remora a killer little hob skimmer and probably the best out there. Especially for the price. I know deltec makes a really good one but I have no experience with them so I couldn't guide you at all with it.
