This one has stumped me for a couple of months now. We changed salts about 2 months ago and the pH in our tanks began to rise. Right now we're at 8.45 in the morning to 8.59-8.60 by night. I have a probe as well as confirmed this with 2 different test kits.

    Readings are:
    Ammonia: 0
    Ni: 0
    Na: 0
    Ca: 480
    Alk: 3.5
    Mag: 1290
Phos: .02 ( I know it's a little high, we are adding a reactor right now)
Stronium: 4 (Just started testing, I will be adding supplements in the morning)

What is a safe way to lower the pH?

Any ideas why it has gone so high?

    Thanks
    Mike

If your CR has enough head room you could just run the calcium reactor and not the kalk reactor. With those numbers kalk is about the only thing that would drive the pH higher.

What brand of salts did you and are you using?

Actually the Kalk is there but hasn't been running in a month I unplugged the pump on it because I thought that was the problem.

I'm using Aqua Craft CORAL MARINE Scientific Formula™. I increased to CO2 and the effluent out of the reactor is 6.25 but still no drops in the pH?

    I also do a 20g water change a week!

    I'm stumped.

Could you go back to your old salt?

Well after contacting Aqua Craft, they formulate their salt to a pH of 8.4 which is closest to sea water so there;s my answer. I also lowered to pH on my reactor from 6.5to 6.0 and that seems to be balancing it out a little more.

Cool, Good to know. That a pretty high level Salt your using and that's very interesting that they would go with 8.4 PH. Sorta builds in a drop do to a CR.

    I like it
