I was concerned when my new little hippo was afraid of the big old algae clip.........then I was elated ! She now loves the patches of hair algae have. She is mowing them down. She finally decided the mean old algae clip is ok now, but still eats hair algae. I heard they didn't like it ! She's such a Dory !

I would love to purchase one but I've heard so many bad things about them.
They're finicky eaters etc. I really want to make a dentist office tank from the movie for my nieces and nephews to enjoy. But I'm skeptical about buying the the hippo tangs. Should I or should I not but these fish hummmmm;D

Never heard anything about that ;) I have had two and they will eat absolutley anything you throw in the tank. About the only negative things with them, is that a lot of the younger ones can be quite skiddish and will hide if anyone comes near the tank.

The day we got her she came out within two hours and was swimming around I was surprised. I thought she'd hide for a couple of days. She isn't the first fish out, only a follower. Find my story about Funny Doreen! She spotted the clowns and it has been a love hate relationship since then!

She's happy (I've only had her 3 days) to eat anything now put into the tank. She actually has a tummy on her now. She love current ! She plays in it all the time. Lights go out and you will not see her. She only plays when the lights are on.

wow, that's a nice surprise. At the LFS where I work, the day after we get them they begin to whither. The don't eat and they develop ick. We are deffinately doing something wrong. And here I am putting that beautiful fish down... the next shipment, I think I'll buy me a few;)

One thing I wouldn't call them is "finicky eaters". In fact, you'd better to get off they way when anything edible hits the water, cause you'll get splashed. My hippo is always the first on the food line. And he will run everyone else down, trying to get to the last morsel before them.;)

Hippos are scared of their own shadow.
