I just came home from work... My hippo tang has a very large white dot on its eye similar looking to ich but it's bigger than any icy spot I have seen. My hippo is a juvenile and gets ich from time to time. It always gets through it fine. It's still eating like normal. The hippo also has a spot under its eye about the same size of its eye where the skin looks like it has been peeled of. I would guess it had a similar spot in that area to what it has on its eye now and it broke open leaving the area without the nice blue skin. I just did a water change...anyone have some advice to help this little guy out? He still eats but seems distressed. Help Please

If you have a picture it would help some of these guys out with the diagnosis. Any chance you can get one?

ok it wasn't easy but i got a picture that shows the issue....

I started a new job and i work at 6am-6pm so i appreciate any info i can get and i will check each evening when i get home.

The tang still eats like normal, the spot with missing skin under the eye is getting smaller and seems to be healing.

The eye on the other hand seems worse....its cloudy and somewhat puffy looking (hard to explain)

it kinda looks like there is another spot that i have not mentioned but its just the fin....picture turned out kinda blurred because it was about to dart into the LR

what is the tank size? if its the tank in your signature then that tank is way overstocked and that is your reason right there.

I haven't updated my signature...the foxface is gone.

thanks for your opinion but no offense..... thats not a reason just a lame answer.

I have had the tang since it was a tiny baby(about 1'' long), its not the tank size that has made the large white dot on its eye and under the eye...

I am in the process of setting up my 90G tank. I realize some fish will out grow the tank they are housed in and i will eventually get a even larger tank than the 90G when the time calls for it.

with all the collective knowledge on this site I am requesting only answers that could lead to getting the tang some relief. It is obvious to me that it is not comfortable and in distress.

    Thanks

IMO i was leaning to the diet of the tang.... I have a good variety of frozen, flake, pellets, and a few different types of nori...

The tang never touches the nori which i thought was odd.... It eats everything but the nori.

I have a pair of very active skunk cleaner shrimps and the tang utilizes them often.

    thanks

its not a lame answer its the answer, size has nothing to do with what sized tank you should have that thing probably swims a couple miles a day in nature. and your confining him to a 55 gallon tank. therefore stressing him, therefore he succumbs to parasite.

you cant act like you know your fish is happy and it wasnt overstocking that led to this, none of us really know how are fish are feeling. heck a tang in a public aquarium could be really pissed off hes living in a 10 thousand gallon tank instead of the ocean!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I am sorry but I can not make out anything in the image.

For the other tang have you considered Laterial Line Disease?

If the original tang that you posted about has the white spot directly on the eye, it might just be an injury or trauma to the eye.

Does it look anything like an external parasite?

I looks like a single ich spot on the eye or inside the eye. Yesterday it looked like a hard (larger than normal ich spot) on the eye...the eye was clear like the other, but today the spot seems non-visible and the eye is cloudy like how a dogs eye looks when it has a cataract.

Just so you all know...when my 90g is up and running I will be converting another 55g into a sump/fuge.

Maybe a fluke? They can be indicated by a clouded eye.
