So Have been seeing this red/purple stuff show up all over the rocks and stuff. I know this is kinda a dumb question but it looks so dark and was wondering if it was coraline algae just in a diffrent color. I have some rocks in my sump to seed the coraline and they are dark like this all the way through. So just wanted to see what you guys thought. I really love the color but wanted to get a positive ID on it

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
One way to make sure is to touch it. If is feels slippery or slimy it maybe a type of algae. It looks a little fuzzy to me. I have some coralline that is a dark crimson red like that but it does not appear fuzzy like that.

In your pictures, it looks like the "coralline algae" is bumpy and raised with mass growing on top of it. Bubbles are forming all over it as well. This leads me to believe you might have cyano. Can you scrap that algae off with your finger nail or remove it easily? If so, you might have cyano.

But to answer your original question, coralline comes in many different colors, that being one of them :)

Yeah its hard to tell. What I did do was took my little cleaner tooth brush and tried to scrub it off the rock and it does not come off. So what im thinking is that I do have a little GHA in there and im thinking thats it might be growing on top of that. Its not slimy and you almost need to scrape at it to get it off.

Its not cyano I know that it would have come right off when I hit it with the brush

thats not bubbles its sand my gobie likes to kick up on the bottom rocks. Also if it was cyano it would come off with a brush right? Cuz this stuff does not come off with a brush at all. It is hard as a rock almost. It apears fuzzy yes i can see that but it is not growning and there is also a rock in my fuge that has this same color coraline running all the way through it.

Could this be the start of coraline. I just find it hard to have a type of red slime that cant be removed without a razor blade!

I have not seen coralline coat GHA. Especially for it to be so completely engulfed like that. It may be a possibility as I have coralline growing on my chaeto. I'm starting to believe that you may have some type of red turf algae growing.

I hear you on that one, except I have stomatopods to do the sand kicking.

Yea I have a clown in there that thinks he is a contruction worker and needs to clear the way for his nem. He gets his little tail going and toss's that stuff all over the rocks. And also mr gobie thinks he needs to do the same lol

Yea this hole thing has be baffled for sure. It is hard as a rock though. Im not sure if its hairy or if its my bow front tank and the camera making it look that way. I have no phospates, Nitrates, Nitrites, Or Ammonia in the tank as of today. My halide is on a 6 hour schedule with actinics on 7 hours cut back due to the GHA in there. Its really got me stumped on how to get rid of it or if its a bad or good thing. Might just let it grow and see what it does. I had some cyano in my fuge a few weeks back but I got rid of it pretty quick and have not had it come back yet so i dont know. I also have 44X flow in the tank so it has me kinda baffled
