I was thinking about purchasing one of these for my 90 gallon reef to put pods back in there and lower my nitrates back to acceptable levels which have started to run away on me lately. Experiences? Good? Bad?

I haven't tried one personally, but I am taking purchasing one into deep consideration. It couldn't hurt thats for sure.

I'm not sure if I have space for one sized for a 90 but even if I get one smaller it will still put pods back in the tank and take the nitrate down a good chunk, right.

Well as for pods it will be great. As for lowering your nitrates it should work. I have one on my 75, pods every where in it, but as far as maintaing your ph it's a no go. My ph would drop at night with the HOB fuge. Your better off getting a bigger fuge as I did, now my ph stays the same day and night. I added a 10 gallon fuge and is happy that I did.

I measured and there's no room for an aquafuge behind my tank. I'm about a half inch short.
