Im going to upgrade my HOB filter. The one I have now (marineland 150) is only a suppliment to my skimmer and LR. Marineland seems to be the most popular of the HOBs ...any other suggestions?

what are you using in the HOB Sharkbate?

I mean what media do you run? is it biological, mechanical or chemical?

what amount of rockwork do you have?
whats your water movement like ?

you dont have a very high bioload if your signature is up to date
and as such you might not need any biological capacity other than that which is provided by the rock etc

    just my opinion

those style filters aren't doing you any good. upgrading it, IMO, is a waste of money. Having it, IMO, is a waste of space.

Unless you're using it to run other type media (like phos-ban or carbon) and not for the mechanical filter aspect, it just isn't helping (don't really hurt either of course).

I have to agree. I use one, with "the bag" (a fine mesh bag that is reusable) for chemical media (carbon). Otherwise, I wouldn't use it.

I use an AquaClear HOB filter for my 37 gallons and I really like it.
