HOB filter overflow

    The littlest bit of gunk, whether on the impeller or on the prefilter screen, will change the flow rate, and you'll be flooding your DT.

    Better than having a wet floor lmao. Ive thought about this in and out, n that always is my downdall. i think ill op out of doing this with all this input.

    As close as possible isn't going to cut it. It has to be exact. Just so u know even the water level where the return pump sits will change the gph. Even with a gate valve on the return it will change. U can try to make it match but I think u will be messing with it everyday until it overflows. I have thought about this before and I came to the conclusion that there is no way to make 2 pumps put out the same gph so they match.

    I would just go with a standard, prebuilt overflow. The headaches involved with converting a HOB to an overflow aren't worth the $50 you'll "save".

    I say "save", because you won't actually save that much. Between a bulkhead, a hole saw, and all the time you'll waste, you'll probably be out more money trying to convert it.

    I hate to agree, given the lack of creativity (fun) that will result. However, "tinkering" is best done on ANYTHING except for an overflow.

    yeah on ebay you can the whole hob overflow for like 70$..with a 1000gph return that you can adjust, im about to pull the plug and get it..im ready to build a sump for the tank..not that i need it but its a luxory and i have an extra 20 gallon i was gonna use as a frag tank..but still unsure.
