    Hi all,

I'm new here and was looking for some advice and input from fellow reefer's here on 3reef.com :). I currently and starting a 55 gallon reef tank with what i believe is a 5-10 gallon wet dry filter/sump with bio balls, along with a seaclone 100 protein skimmer in sump. Right now my tank is cycling with live sand and live rock i just purchased from premiumaquatics.com the rock its amazing. I also have 2 korla powerheads (sry for spelling) pushing out 600 gph also my return is a rio 2100.

Would it be a bad idea to add an Hagen Aquaclear filter on the back of the tank for extra filtration and movemnet. I would take out the bio-media and carbon pad and fill it with bio-balls and leave the stock sponge in. Would this help my tank? Would this hurt my tank? Any thoughts or imput?

Also whata re some good begginer fish to start a tank with, so i can do some researching and so on :)

    Thank you
    Adam

I would keep the carbon pad over the bioballs. Clowns, chromis, most gobys...

+1 to all comments ;) I run the pad, carbon, and live rock rubble in my aquaclear.
I would go with a pair of clowns

So i am assuming it would be a good idea to add the aquaclear but use live rubble and teh carbon pad?

Why not just get a media bag with some carbon and stick it in the wet/dry, or use a carbon pad? I wouldn't get the filter just for movement.

Because when you run it through a filter, its called active filtering, being that the water is physically forced through the media with no where else to go. If you toss a bag or sponge in to the wet dry, its called passive filtering, meaning that it just kinda absorbs some things as the water moves around it, not through it. Active is much, much more efficient than passive. Plus you'll have easier maintanance with the HOB filter, and the increased water movement, specially on the surface, is just an added bonus that comes along with everything.

Pack Leader thank you for your helpfule advice, and every1 else. How do you have your aquaclear set up and which one are you currntly using. As i am unclear with HOB filters, should i make it into a small refigium (if i use the aquaclear 110) wich is gor 60-110 gallons ? I have a 55 gallon tank with 60 lbs of live rock and 60 lbs of live sand.

    Thank you
