The better thing would be to throttle back the pump by placing a ball valve on it. What type of overflow and what type of pump (w. GPH)

i think my pump is 600 gph. I have a 90 gal tank I need to take some video but im getting ready to leave for training as a truck driver over the road. I'm actually going out with a trainer from my new company and don't have a lot of time tonight IF he shows up with the truck to pick me up. no call yet ANYWAYS.....

    I have :

I took the top off and put a new filter in tonight. I have a strange plasic thing inside the main pipe. it's a plastic washer with a hole in it and a pvc pipe and a plasic ring washer around that. i'm guessing it floats up and closes the pipe if something goes wrong i don't know. I got the system 2nd hand of C list. My wife had our system totally at 0 cept for nitrates still trying on that.

get a proper 1" U tube and it will go a very long way towards increasing and equalizing the flow in your system. that flexable hose you have is to small a diameter, and any airbubble that gets into it has the potential to break the siphon and cause a flood.

how would it cause a flood? if i turn the tank off the tank reverse siphons into the sump from the return line. then the water level is under the over flow in the DT so it cant take on more water.

looking online for the tube no luck yet do you have any links for some? Please

where to start? ok, the picture you provided above looks like a piece of old flexable tubing instead of the overflow tube you provided a link to, if it's actually a proper overflow tube then my appologies, i'll make an eye appointment next week :)

now, for flooding, im not talking about during a power outage, but a broken siphon due to air bubbles building up in that overflow tube. if the siphon breaks and the return pump is still on the sump will get pumped dry and the main tank will fill up to overflow.

exactly, if the siphon breaks the water wont reach the drain to the sump, but if you actually have a proper overflow tube thats a slim possability
