What are your plans for the tank? FOWLR, Reef only, Reef with fish?

I probably went a little overkill with my 55, but I have an Eshopps PF-1000 overflow box going into an Eshopps R-200 refugium/sump.

But your overflow should really be determined by your return pump. Look at your pump (I have a Marineland Maxi-Jet 3000) and what it will do at the head pressure it will see, and size your overflow from there. You want your overflow to be oversized so that you do not risk overfilling your DT. People will say that you can just lower the flow rate on the pump using a valve, but this will shorten the life of the pump and should be avoided (IMO).

I have a 800gph, but since I reduced the flow through the bulkhead from a 1' flow to a 3/4 flow I think I reduced it to 600gph, my pump is a 770gph pump, seems to work well for me and thats for a 40b.
